Meeting Milan

Tech Entrepreneur 2013

The picture that comes to mind with the mention of Milan may not have much to do with entrepreneurship for some ... but after our recent visit to Italy's beautiful city with host Bird & Bird and local partners PoliHub and Cartagena Capital, we can assure that Innovation is alive and well ... rich with a style that is uniquely Milanese.

Our tour began on July 3rd, with an intimate evening at the very chic Bird & Bird offices, a taste of local wine and cuisine ... and on to the main event at the prestigious Politecnico campus the following day.

Presenting firms were Tucano, Sportsquare Games, GiPSTech, Vivocha, Alleantia, Empatica, Taggalo, and Private-Griffe

Benedetta Arese Lucini told the story of her journey with Uber and her return to Milan from Silicon Valley. Marco Pescarmona of Grupo MutuiOnline gave us his view of the Italian innovation scene, after taking a Milanese firm public; and "Serial CEO/Coach" Ashley Ward shared his perspective, focusing on the importance of Global Thinking as an essential ingredient to success.

An all-star panel on the Entrepreneurial Climate in Italy, featured JUSP's Stefano Calderano; Fabio di Gioia of Cartagena Capital; Cesare Maifredi of 360° Capital; Marco Pescarmona of MutuiOnline; Massimiliano D'Amico of Bird & Bird Milan; and Lorenzo Franchini of Italian Angels for Growth.

As always, after an intense few hours, there was top-notch networking, and valuable connections to be made. We look forward to seeing many of these participants at our Pathways to Exit Summit in October!

Enormous thanks go to our Global Sponsor, Bird & Bird and their fabulous team in Milan, to Cartagena Capital, and Politecnico/PoliHub for helping to make Tech Entrepreneur Milan 2013 a great success. We look forward to returning next year to this vibrant city, which has clearly earned its place on the European Entrepreneurial Landscape.
